I spent some time over the Easter weekend pulling together DailyKu - a website that delivers a daily haiku poem via Twitter.
The concept is simple: gather a database of haiku poems written by the original Japanese masters in the 16th to 18th Centurys, then write a script to post one per day to a Twitter account automatically.
If you're on Twitter, follow DailyKu and check it out!
For those of you who aren't aware of Twitter yet, it's a simple messaging website that allows you to post very short messages publicly and follow the messages of others. It's kind of like being in a messaging chat with all of your friends at the same time. Messages are limited to 140 characters, and it's often treated as a 'microblog' where people post thoughts, activities and links to other websites they find interesting.
Haiku is actually very popular on Twitter as the brevity of the form fits perfectly into the Twitter format. So we'll see how the traditional masters stack up against the flood of contemporary haiku poems.
